Our Projects

BEFORE the conference

This year excitELT offered presenters an opportunity to have a mentor for their session preparation. A team of “seasoned” conference speakers guides less experienced presenters who requested support, they give advice and assistance as needed. We hope that such an initiative could be helpful in attracting more teachers to feel more confident in presenting at conferences!

DURING the conference

While students in Japan enjoy a variety of graded readers used by their teachers for Extensive Reading classes, and for the teachers themselves it’s quite easy to access these resources offered by so many big and small publishing houses, in some countries the situation is not looking so happy. It may be simply impossible to find the books in the bookstores, or they will cost too much for both teachers and students to be able to pay.

Such is the case with a small provincial Huynh Thuc Khang Upper Secondary School, located in Van Ninh, Khanh Hoa province in Vietnam. We at excitELT invite our attendees to contribute to creating a small English library of readers for students learning English in this school. On the day of our event, in the Cafe space you will see a special box for collecting any used or new English graded readers books that you might wish to donate. All of the books collected during the conference will be sent to Huynh Thuc Khang school.

AFTER the conference

It's important for us to give back to the community, so any proceeds from excitELT will be split between two education-related good causes. Educating Girls in Rural China is an organisation that provides financial and emotional support to young women from poverty-stricken Western China to help them receive high school and university education. We'll also be supporting iTDi (International Teacher Development Institute) scholarship program. This program allows online professional development courses to those teachers who wouldn't normally be able to afford them.
